What is the way of modern Chinese painting? Firstly we can learn many techniques from Chinese tradition, like how to use the brush, line manipulation, ink and water methods. Then we have to discover the characteristic and originality of the medium brush, ink, rice paper give us fluidity and a layering transparent quality. We also find that it is more suitable to paint with lines and dots. Overall, this medium is very suitable to depict nature and illustrate biological form. Additionally, as we have a eternal feeling towards nature, we should face and learn directly from it, instead of copying traditional works. Since nature remains constant and only the artist changes, we should figure out our own way of expression. We can express in a more free, direct and bold manner to match with our modern daily life. We should aim to paint from memory so it encourages to remember the basic structure of the painted subject, digest it and give our own aesthetic judgment. Finally new boundaries are also made in modern Chinese painting as we make more investigation into the use of color, looking at western examples. Taking into account all the above qualities, it is my belief that we can experience the proper way of modern Chinese painting.
